My creative DNA:

My grandfather Ronald Payne was a successful writer based in central London at Souvenir Press, working under the pseudonym of John Castle and his 1954 book The Password is Courage, which was an English curriculum book, was made into a blockbuster film by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer featuring Dirk Bogarde in the lead role. His book Flight Into Danger, written in collaboration with Arthur Hailey was used as the basis for the famous spoof film Airplane featuring Leslie Nielsen.

My father is a drummer and was on Decca Records in the 60’s with 3 released singles with the band the Redcaps (name checked as a favourite band of the time by Robert Plant), they also played as support band to The Beatles at Oldhill Plaza in the West Midlands. Following the Redcaps he joined the original line-up of Chicken Shack with Stan Webb, Andy Silvester and Christine Perfect (who went on to join Fleetwoood Mac) and they worked the famous Hamburg gig circuit playing at clubs like the Star Club.

My mother was an Art Therapist for adults with special needs, a ‘live-in’ Greenham Common protester and of course a hippie from the swinging sixties. She is now retired … but still a hippie.

Following the unexpected death of music producer and remix legend Andrew Weatherall in 2020, I was moved into action to start creating my own electronic music under the pseudonym Dirt Bogarde and have received club and radio play by DJ’s in Ibiza (inc. legendary Pikes), California, Australia, Scotland, London and Brighton. Here are a few featured tracks.
